Even back then, Baker he stood
Six foot and three inches cruel
With his varsity jacket and chiseled chin
Poster boy for boarding school

He took the meekest boy
Looked him right in the eyes
And broke him like Piggy in the Lord of the Flies
He said you never bet
Against the house
And if you're not cheating, you're not trying anyhow

But then I had rent and needed a job
Baker, he had them by the pound
I kept up his favor until one day I did not
And I woke up gagged and bound

He put a razor wire
Around an acre pen
That's where he'd put you, put you if you weren't his friend
So I wore the stripes
I kept the wheelbarrow filled
Cause we were inmates in the prison we helped to build

Justice in the pen was a curious thing
Because by Baker's decree
All complaints were sedition against your comrade convicts
They'd string you from the gantry for all to see

On the outside, it happened that Baker's favorite son
Was stealing our money from the Fed
We said you want to keep your head? He belongs in here with us
So the warden made Junior up a bed

Behind the razor wire
Around an acre pen
But a partner at Baker, Baker, Baker and Friends
Picked up the phone
And made a call
The anointed one was led from his cell and down the hall
That's why you never bet
Against the house
If you're not cheating you're not trying anyhow
